Personal Work

More Experimentation with Sheldon

I choose to shoot with the same model most of the time now because I know that I am distracted by the simple capture of beauty; photographing a model that I have shot many times before forces me to think of what I can do that will be different. I see examples of images in photographers’ work that are worth trying to imitate. Most of the time, the challenge is lighting. What follows are some of the results of the experimentation. The poses are similar in many cases, and the differences are in the lighting. Some images are in color, others in black and white, and some in black and white as a layer with 90% opacity over a color image. Post-processing gives one another opportunity to experiment.
Many of my images show how pretty or glamorous she is. The images at the end were more experimental still, involving putting a black “flag” (a rectangle of black cardboard) in front of a “softbox,” something that spreads and diffuses the light from a studio flash. The last image was created by putting a spotlight behind Sheldon, and having her spray water droplets into the air above her.
Enjoy!
