Logan Pass is the highest point in the park, and probably the most popular spot. We finally found parking, and, as we came after the end of the Park’s shuttle service, we could stay in the park longer than the usual three hours. This was a good thing, as our hike out behind the visitor center and back again took more than that. As usual, I spent a lot of that time not walking, but shooting.

I had a new B+W circular polarizing filter on my 24-70mm lens. What did that do? It let me increase the intensity of color in the sky, and reduced haze on distant mountainsides. I had enough experience rendering clouds against blue sky in black and white that I knew I would get some dynamite images, such as the third one here. Paul Johnson, the author of Art: A New History, observed that landscape paintings of the 19th Century were as much about the skies as about the land. That is true for landscape photography as well.
