The real interest of the Avalanche Lake Trail was not so much the lake at the end of it, but the cascades at the beginning, and the boulders in the heavily shaded forest on the way. The mountains around the lake were impressive, especially when viewed through my 100-400mm long lens. The lake itself was shallow and apparently stagnant. I imagine that it would be full in the Spring with the runoff.
