Stained Glass Art

Glacier Bay II: Resurrexit
In 2019 my wife and I took a cruise to Alaska. As usual, I took many, many photos. Mountains are a favorite theme. I was particularly impressed by our excursions to Glacier Bay. There were two glaciers and two mountains that stood out: one of these pairs was the Margerie Glacier, found at the northern reach of Tarr Inlet in Glacier Bay, with Mount Quincy Adams in the background. I was struck by majesty of the far-off mountain, and by the texture of the glacier face. These were the inspiration for the glass piece you see below. (Click on images to enlarge.)
Stained glass panel, with scuffed glass-on-glass elements; 22 x 28″, 1.5″ oak frame with rounded edges, stained dark blue and dark green, epoxy finish — $3,500; delivery in person, $100 in advance; see “Delivery Area,” below, for details.

The other duo that impressed me were the Johns Hopkins Glacier and Mount Orville towering over it (10,272 ft.). Tour ships are only allowed in the area in late summer, so the glacier looks quite dirty! The image was only an inspiration, however, and I felt free to let my imagination treat the details as it occurred to me.
The technique here is stained glass glued to clear glass. If I had used copper foil tape and solder, the smaller pieces would have been lost. I wanted to convey some of the detail in the mountain, icefields, and glacier. (Click on images to enlarge.)

Delivery Area
I will deliver the glass artwork in person anywhere that is within 50 miles from the center of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Fee for delivery is $100, payable in advance. Alternatively, you can come to see the work at my home/studio, and take it with you no cost (cash only).
I will also deliver it anywhere within 50 miles from the Baltimore-Washington International Airport, Maryland; or 50 miles from the center of Columbus, Ohio.
I will also deliver it anywhere within 50 miles from the highways leading from Pittsburgh to the other two cities. (I have family I visit in Maryland and Ohio.) So, for example, I would deliver to Arlington, Virginia, or to Akron, Ohio.
If you’re unsure whether you would be in the delivery area, please call, and perhaps we can work something out; 412-418-6349.
