Black and White, Special Lens
October 2023
Our camera-phones and our digital cameras can now capture really good images — sharp, well-exposed, with great color — almost automatically. The photographer can find another way to introduce uniqueness into his or her images: the lens. Lensbaby has a line of lenses that do what most other lenses can’t (and for this reason, they are often used in movies and in television programs). The Spark lens gives tremendous creative control (or responsibility) to the photographer, to accentuate whatever he or she wants to show. After the group and individual portraits in color, we went to the play structures, and I fired away, capturing childhood (and adulthood) at play. Here are some results, rendered in black and white. Laura’s parents were with us, and I captured a few posed shots, in color here, at the end of our session. The first image is a 13 x 19″ collage of a few of the black & white images.
