Shooting a big family group

Yesterday I shot a large family group — 18 people in total — with many smaller groups and some individuals. I had a blast, actually. It’s high-pressure, in that you have an assortment of people who are in a holiday mood, but who don’t want to spend forever getting their pictures taken. But it wasn’t like I had to herd cats: people were very responsive, and the mood was positive. There were lots of smiles and “good cheer,” as we say at this time of year. Still, I had a moment of high anxiety when my second Canon flash fell off the light stand and bounced off the floor. I was surprised and pleased that it was still on, with no problems! (Junk stuff from China would have been toast.) I spend a couple of hours (OK, longer!) working on the images (because I have perfectionist tendencies and a strong desire to please :-), and got some great results. I also tried some post-processing treatments in Lightroom (black-and-white, and toned images, some cropped images, etc.). It’s very satisfying. I hope that the client is pleased.
